A stocking filler for the cook and Christmas recipe too!

The Uni-lighter at just £12.99 makes an ideal stocking filler present. It is a butane powered lighter and mini blow torch, with a refillable gas reservoir.

Perhaps the most exciting use in this festive season is for finishing off your leftover Christmas Pudding.
    Here is a recipe for a delicious creme brulee (and you can use the left over whites for a Sweet Cranberry Omelette}

                                      CHRISTMAS PUDDING CREME BRULEE

    Ingredients

    500ml full cream milk

    500ml double cream

    1 teasp vanilla extract

    10 egg yolks

    120g sugar

    brown sugar – as required

    leftover Christmas pudding

Using either individual ramekins or 2-3 pt ovenproof souffle dish

    Method

    1. Heat oven to 100c. Pour the milk, cream and vanilla into a saucepan, bring to the boil. Remove from heat and leave to cool for about 10 minutes.
    2. Add the sugar to the egg yolks, and whisk thoroughly. Then add the milk and cream mixture and whisk in, but not vigorously in order to avoid foaming.
    3. Add a little of the Christmas pudding to the base of each ramekin, or the soufflé dish, and pour the crème brulee mixture over. Put the ramekins into a baking dish of hot water so that the water goes to just about half way up the outside
    4. Put in the oven for 45 minutes at 100c. Check through the cooking that they do not boil in the oven and lower the temperature if necessary
    5. When firm to touch remove and allow to cool
    6. Sprinkle the brown sugar on top and caramelize using your Unilight Mini Blowtorch
    7. Can be made ahead of time and kept in fridge

Another new product: the Zip 100% natural Stove Log

Zip the brand leading UK firelighter manufacturers have launched an innovative new product specifically for stoves which are suitable for real solid fuel fires, it is the Zip 100% natural Stove Log. Towler & Staines are among the first outlets to promote and sell this exciting addition to the range.

The Stove Log provides instant lighting, is clean and easy to use and burns for over 90 minutes!
It is made in Ireland from locally grown willow. A native species, willow is planted and harvested on Irish soil by farmers using the ancient practice of coppicing.

Recent research shows that coppice willow provides one of our most sustainable systems of providing home grown renewable and carbon neutral fuel, while also providing a new business opportunity for the Irish farmers.

This easy to use stove log is designed to with real heat for up to 90 minutes in your log burning stove. It helps you create a warm ambient fire within moments of lighting the wrapper, with minimal mess and time. The Zip Stove Log can be used on it's own or can be topped up with other

Record entry for Great Skipton Santa Fun Run

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run took place on Sunday 1st December 2013 and this 4th year of the event had a record number of runners, a staggering 1218! It is expected that this will result in a record amount of money raised for local charities, although the exact amount is not known until mid February when all sponsorship monies have been collected. Last year under 1000 runners generated a staggering £17,000 so we are optimistic about raising more this year.

The event was organised by Skipton Craven Rotary Club and as I am a member it is only natural that Towler & Staines have a role. We provided over 600 cups of tea and coffee to the tired runners at the end. We used 3 Burco Dean Urns powered by Calor Gas. Come to think of it this a fairly unusual Calor application and could have been a worthy entry for our current competition on Facebook!
