Here is a recipe for a delicious creme brulee (and you can use the left over whites for a Sweet Cranberry Omelette}
                        
                                  CHRISTMAS PUDDING CREME BRULEE

Ingredients                                                                                                                  

500ml full cream milk                                      

500ml double cream

1 teasp vanilla extract

10 egg yolks

120g sugar

brown sugar – as required

leftover Christmas pudding

 

Using either individual ramekins or 2-3 pt ovenproof souffle dish

Method

1. Heat oven to 100c. Pour the milk, cream and vanilla into a saucepan, bring to the boil. Remove from heat and leave to cool for about 10 minutes.
2. Add the sugar to the egg yolks, and whisk thoroughly. Then add the milk and cream mixture and whisk in, but not vigorously in order to avoid foaming.
3. Add a little of the Christmas pudding to the base of each ramekin, or the soufflé dish, and pour the crème brulee mixture over. Put the ramekins into a baking dish of hot water so that the water goes to just about half way up the outside
4. Put in the oven for 45 minutes at 100c. Check through the cooking that they do not boil in the oven and lower the temperature if necessary
5. When firm to touch remove and allow to cool
6. Sprinkle the brown sugar on top and caramelize using your Unilight Mini Blowtorch
7. Can be made ahead of time and kept in fridge

Record entry for Great Skipton Santa Fun Run

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run took place on Sunday 1st December 2013 and this 4th year of the event had a record number of runners, a staggering 1218! It is expected that this will result in a record amount of money raised for local charities, although the exact amount is not known until mid February when all sponsorship monies have been collected. Last year under 1000 runners generated a staggering £17,000 so we are optimistic about raising more this year.

The event was organised by Skipton Craven Rotary Club and as I am a member it is only natural that Towler & Staines have a role. We provided over 600 cups of tea and coffee to the tired runners at the end. We used 3 Burco Dean Urns powered by Calor Gas. Come to think of it this a fairly unusual Calor application and could have been a worthy entry for our current competition on Facebook!

New Living Flame Mobile Heater added to range.

For many years there have been only three Living Flame Mobile Calor Gas powered heaters available, namely The Provence , The Manhattan and the Thurcroft. All these heaters are in cast aluminium or iron construction, and are all priced above £220.

First frost! Worried about your garden?

The BBC Weather gave notice of the first frost this morning, so if you are a gardener worried about your plants, vegetables and blooms why not look at acquiring a greenhouse heater.

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run 1st December 2013

Have you got the Christmas spirit to join in the fun?

All entrants in this 5 kilometre run will be provided with a FREE Santa suit, so that the streets of Skipton will be thronged with Father Christmas look-alikes. Last year there were over 900 runners!

This is not a competitive race event. It is designed so that people of all ages and abilities can take part, have fun and enjoy a community sporting activity. Run, jog or walk: everyone can join in!
Commemorative medals will be presented to all who finish the course.

The start and finish venue is Aireville Park Gargrave Road, Skipton. The assembly area is open from 9am and the run starts at 11am.

It is hoped that participants will raise sponsorship monies to support Manorlands Hospice, Martin House Hospice, Yorkshire Dales Society and Rotary Charities.

The event is organized by Skipton Craven Rotary Club.

Why Calor Patio Gas?

At Towler & Staines Ltd. the Calor Gas Principal Dealer in Bradford and Keighley we are frequently asked the question " why Calor Patio Gas?" So here is my answer.

In recent years gas barbecues are increasingly designed for propane gas, possibly because butane gas is not available for consumers in a number of countries including the USA and Canada. The original Calor Propane cylinders have a female threaded valve which requires a spanner to make a gas tight connection.

With the arrival of the Patio Heater and the increasing popularity of gas barbecues it was decided that a clip on regulator with a gas contents indicator was much more user friendly and, most importantly, safer. Hence the launch of Calor Patio Gas a few years ago which is propane gas with a clip on connection and a contents indicator. It is in a green and red cylinder and comes in two sizes: the 13kg which is ideal for Patio Heaters and larger barbecues (four burners and more); the 5kg which is suited to smaller barbecues and the recently introduced Grill 2 Go is specially designed to fit on it.

The clip on regulator is designed to pass a greater quantity of gas than the small propane regulator and is therefore suitable for even the largest barbecue or patio heater.

Calorvan and Towler & Staines will be at Keighley Show

Towler & Staines Ltd. the LPG Specialists will be at Keighley Show with the increasingly famous Calorvan display unit on Saturday 7th September 2013 at Marley, Keighley.

The stand will feature a number of Calor Gas powered products including the Flame Tower and the Santorini patio heaters, the ideal way to extend the outdoor life a little longer.

A wide range of cabinet heaters will be on show including the Provence, Manhattan and Thurcroft living flame heaters and the funky modern Hotspot blue flame heater.

There will also be a range of interesting other items including the X-Hose.

As always there will be a prize draw with a chance to win a valuable appliance.

If it is good weather there may be a chance to sample a tasty bite from the Grill 2 Go Calor barbecue.

Towler & Staines Show Prize Winners from Cheshire and Bingley

Last weekend Towler & Staines Ltd. were at the Northern Motorhome Show at Cheshire Showground and with the Calorvan at Bingley Show in Myrtle Park, Bingley.
Both showstands featured a prize draw and the lucky winners are as follows:

Northern Motorhome Show: Vera Hulme of Sowerby Bridge won an X-Hose.

Bingley Show: Chris Milne of Silsden won a Manhattan Calor Gas Living Flame Fire .
