Towler & Staines celebrate 25 years at Bradford Calor Gas Centre.

25 years ago Towler & Staines Ltd the Calor Gas Principal Dealer based in Keighley purchased the Calor Gas Centre business in Leeds Road, Bradford. It is always pleasant to celebrate an anniversary and interesting to see how things have changed.

Back then the business was almost totally dedicated to the sales of Calor Gas cylinders. The only bottled gas appliances on offer were a small range of mobile heaters, cookers, water boilers, blow torches and accessories. Much of the customer base for gas comprised industrial enterprises many of which are no longer in business today.

A “fast forward” to 2015 shows a very different picture. Calor Gas cylinders are still sold in large quantities to both domestic and commercial customers but other gases have been added to the mix. Towler & Staines became agents for Air Products industrial gases soon after the business was bought. Oxygen, Acetylene, Nitrogen, and a range of shielding gases second to none are part of the range. Nowadays most industrial gas cylinders are Integra with a regulator included on the bottle.

Helium gas from Air Products prompted the opening of a very popular Balloon Centre offering   celebration and party balloons of all kinds.  The very latest designs in helium balloons imported from the US are available, and helium and latex balloons in a wide range of colours to set the scene for any occasion.

Drinks dispense gases from Air Liquide for pubs, clubs and restaurants are a significant part of the business.

However, the most significant change is the enormous variety of Calor Gas powered appliances on offer. Now there are many different kind of mobile heater on sale some with living flame features (Provence and Manhattan). Also Patio Heaters are extremely popular with models such as the Santorini and the Flame Tower of particular interest. A huge variety of Calor Gas barbecues can be seen with leading brands such as Weber, Broil King, Lifestyle, Beefeater, and the Cadac and Beauclaire ranges are of special interest to the caravanner and to use on the balcony or small patio.

A collection of appliances and accessories have been added for the Caravanner, Motor Caravanner and Camper. Even a range of Crusader outdoor folding chairs and tables are on offer.

Towler & Staines website has been very successful in recent years, supplying appliances and accessories all over the country. If you visit you can view a video about the company on the homepage.

Most of the staff have made the 25 year journey with Towler & Staines and have acquired an in depth knowledge of LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas). They are all friendly, helpful and dedicated to giving an unrivalled service.

Recently we have added the facility for you to order your gas cylinders on line or pay over the phone using a debit or credit card.

Skipton Santa Fun Run has raised a record amount.

Earlier blogs have promoted the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run organised by Skipton Craven Rotary Club, in which Towler & Staines played a minor role involving tea, coffee and mince pies. On Tuesday evening an event was held to announce the sums raised and to present cheques to major beneficiaries. Overall 25 different charities received monies from the event.

The rotary club was excited to announce that the total funds raised by runners and sponsors at this event was a staggering £40,020 ,an increase of over ten thousand pounds on the amount raised in the 2013 event and makes the  total raised over 5 years of over £113,000!

Monies raised have increased leaps and bounds from £8409 in 2010 to over £40K this year. This eye popping achievement is all  made possible through the amazing support of people willing to run for fun and gain sponsorship along with all the people and organisations who help support the running of the race and sponsors and the dedicated Rotary Club Santa Fun Run committee. Most of the sponsorship money had already made its way to their charities.

Manorlands representatives  Rachel Cunningham & Deborah Chalmers received a cheque from the club president Ken Lee for £8250, part of the £17446 which was raised on their behalf and the rest of which they have already received. One group of runners alone, Minty's Army, were responsible for raising over £4000 , running in memory of Jason Kendall. Rachel, senior hospice fundraiser,  said "On behalf of all at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice , a big thank you to Skipton Craven Rotary and all the participants who made this event such a success. We've been involved in this fantastic event since year one and we're delighted to see it going from strength to strength. The funds raised allow us to continue providing our incredible care, both at Manor lands and out in the local community.

Yorkshire Air ambulance's Melanie Devine  received a cheque for £5314, part of the £5659 which was raised on their behalf,  said " we're absolutely thrilled to be part of this event and to receive such a generous donation from Skipton Craven Rotary Club. We thought it one of the best events we have attended all year and it was wonderful example of community involvement and great fun. It will enable the Air Ambulance to continue to serve the people of Yorkshire in the future."

Airedale's Dr Meg Crossley received a cheque for £3000, part of the £3260 which was raised on their behalf, towards the Airedale Hospital Emergency Department appeal, the chosen charity of club president Ken Lee. She said "The new ED is everything we had hoped it would be. The facilities for children and their parents are fantastic and by keeping children relaxed and happy they are much easier to assess. Our dementia friendly rooms and furniture are helping reduce stress and anxiety for these vulnerable patients. we are so grateful to the club for their support of our appeal throughout the year we have been able to buy lots of equipment already. the donation from the run will take the appeal total over the £100k target and enable us to buy the remaining cardiac monitors so that every patient who need it can have  immediate access to state of the art monitoring. From a personal perspective the Fun Run was fantastic fun. I can't wait to run again this year.
Don't forget come and join us for the Fun Run on the 29th November, all are welcome. Help us try and raise £50K next time!

Why use Calor Patio Gas?

As the spring and summer months approach many of us start to think about outdoor leisure activities such as barbecues. At this time Towler & Staines staff are often asked about Calor Patio Gas and why we recommend it.

In recent years gas barbecues are increasingly designed for propane gas, possibly because butane gas is not available for consumers in a number of countries including the USA and Canada. The original Calor Propane cylinders have a female threaded valve which requires a spanner to make a gas tight connection.

With the arrival of the Patio Heater and the increasing popularity of gas barbecues it was decided that a clip on regulator with a gas contents indicator was much more user friendly and, most importantly, safer. Hence the launch of Calor Patio Gas a few years ago which is propane gas with a clip on connection and a contents indicator. It is in a green and red cylinder and comes in two sizes: the 13kg which is ideal for Patio Heaters and larger barbecues (four burners and more); the 5kg which is suited to smaller barbecues and the Calor Grill 2 Go is specially designed to fit on it.

The clip on regulator is designed to pass a greater quantity of gas than the small propane regulator and is therefore suitable for even the largest barbecue or patio heater. If you have any other queries on this subject please contact a member of staff at Towler & Staines, the LPG Specialists and we will be delighted to help    .http://www.towler-staines.co.uk/shop/152-gas-cylinders

The new 2-Cook Supreme from Cadac on sale at Towler & Staines

The 2-Cook Supreme from Cadac was launched last April and has proved to be very popular. For those of you who are preparing for camping, caravanning, or motorhoming holidays in the coming months it is an appliance worth considering. It is available at Towler & Staines in Keighley and Bradford as well as on-line.

The BBQ / Stove offers versatile cooking options with a non-stick ribbed griddle and a flat griddle plate. These allow for heat retention and are independently removable, allowing you to cook and fry, or cook and barbecue. The flat plate is ideal for cooking fish, breakfasts and pancakes while the ribbed plate is ideal for grilling meat, fish, chicken and vegetables.

Each burner has easy to light piezo ignition and the heat deflector minimizes heat on the table top. The screw-on legs mean it can be used as a free standing unit or on a table-top. When the griddles are removed there are two pot stands. The 2-Cook Supreme is currently on sale at £140.00 and includes a free carry bag from Towler & Staines.

Calor Gas propane gas is to become greener.

SHV Energy the company which owns Calor Gas Ltd has come to an agreement with Neste Oil to market and sell biopropane in the UK market, produced in the former's Rotterdam refinery.

The agreement is the first of its kind anywhere in the world; replacing existing fossil fuels with biopropane will result in significant carbon savings across Europe. Fulco van Lede of SHV's board said: "biopropane is a wonderful addition to our product portfolioand our customers can benefit from it. LPG already provides our customers with a cleaner rural energy choice to the high carbon fuel alternatives many are dependent on in off grid areas. Biopropane means this option will become even cleaner. In use it is identical to conventional propane and can be blended and used by all existing appliances suitable for use with propane. In addition, biopropane is a great opportunity for SHV Energy to lead the LPG business towards a more sustainable future."

As Calor Gas Principal Dealers, Towler & Staines are delighted at this development and look forward to supplies of biopropane coming on stream in 2016.
