Towler & Staines publish safety advice on the use of Calor Gas barbecues.

Towler & Staines the Calor Gas Principal Dealer in Bradford and Keighley stock a large range of Calor Gas powered barbecues.

However, many of you will be getting out the gas barbecue you already own and Calor have published the following safety advice.

Inspecting your Alfresco Appliances

Seasonal gas appliances are often stored in garages and remain unused for many months. Before they are lit for the first time at the start of the season, follow these simple rules:
Keep it clean! – Thoroughly clean your appliance using a stiff brush and pay particular attention to the impact of spiders and other uninvited little guests.
Check your equipment – Hoses and regulators also need attention. The recommended service life of a hose from the date it is first used is 5 years. Any visible signs of wear indicate immediate replacement.
Stay clear – Keep combustible material including garden furniture away from gas appliances and watch where you position it – not too windy and not too enclosed!

Using Gas Barbecues

The popularity of barbecued food seems to grow every year, but special care needs to be taken when preparing and cooking food outdoors:
Before you start – Burn off at full temperature for ten minutes and then scrape away the charred remains with a wire brush. Allow to cool and wipe over with a little vegetable oil before placing any food on the grill.
Fresh food – Ensure all food is clean and at the temperature appropriate to be cooked. Take particular care with raw meat products which should generally be kept in refrigerated conditions.
Cook thoroughly – Always follow approved cooking guidelines for the food you intend to prepare.
Too many cooks – Keep children and pets away from the cooking area to reduce risk of burns but never leave a lit BBQ unattended.
Turn it off – Once you’ve finished cooking, turn the BBQ off from the regulator, clean and store safely when cooled.
