The answer is no, because propane offers you the same qualities of performance as butane and has greater flexibility in terms of available regulators. You can fit a regulator which passes a greater amount of gas if you have a lot of gas appliances in your caravan such as a water heater, heater and cooker.
For the technically minded, butane has a maximum flame temperature of 1996 degrees C and propane 1980 degrees C. The Calorific Value vaporised is 3200 BTu per cubic foot for butane and 2500 BTu per cubic foot for propane. Butane must be used indoors and propane for external use.
However, the gas performance difference is not really noticeable in use and so we advise you to stay with propane all year round.
Calor Patio Gas is also propane but with a clip on connector rather than the left hand threaded POL connector on propane cylinders.
