Safety first for LPG users this coming summer

Now is the time for caravanners, motorhome owners and gas barbecue enthusiasts to examine their equipment before the season starts. For safety it is important to examine the gas hose to your appliance(s).

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas ) hose should be changed every 5 years to ensure safety in use. Nowadays, it is best to use orange hose as it has a manufacture date on it. In reality it will need to be changed in less than 5 years because there is a period when it is held in stock by the retailer. If your appliance still has black hose, it is highly likely that it needs changing.

LPG hose is made from neoprene, not rubber. This is because LPG attacks rubber and such tubing would rapidly become unsafe when used with Calor Gas.

It is also recommended that your Calor Gas regulator is changed every ten years to ensure safety.
Incidentally you should never use a petroleum based grease such as Vaseline or lubricating grease with an LPG (Calor Gas) regulator as the gas reacts unfavourably with other petroleum based materials.

If in doubt contact the staff at Towler & Staines Calor Gas Dealers in Bradford and Keighley who will be happy to help.

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run raised more than last year for charity.

The Great Skipton Santa Fun Run of 2016 raised a total of £34,451.00 for local charities £710 more than the previous year. The event is organised by Skipton Craven Rotary Club and has become an important event in Skipton's calender.

Manorlands, Yorkshire Cancer Research, and the Yorkshire Child Heart Unit in Leeds were major beneficiaries, but a number of other charities were also supported by the individuals who participated.

Towler & Staines the Calor Gas Principal Dealer provided hot tea and coffee for the competitors using Calor Gas boilers. Their staff provided support in their own time.

If you have a favourite charity why not consider the event this year.

Get ready for summer with a healthy dessert maker and achieve the 10 a day!

Recently the media have been claiming that we need to eat 10 fruit and vegetables per day to optimize our chances of good health. They previously said we needed 5!

Towler & Staines the Calor Gas Principal Dealer in Keighley and Bradford quite surprisingly stock and sell 2 products which will help us to reach the new targets. The Nutribullet juicer and the Dessert Bullet which is a 10 second healthy dessert maker. The machine produces wonderful tasting desserts with all the fruit flavour but without the fat, sugar and calories! You know exactly what is in your dessert, it is all natural, dairy-free, gluten-free, and diabetic friendly. It is an ideal machine for producing wonderful healthy desserts particularly in the summer months.

The Desset Bullet comprises a 7 piece set: a high torque power base, one feed tube and barrel, top funnel tray, maxi fruit press, oval spout, star spout, user manual and recipe book with over 25 delicious recipes.

Peanut butter ice box pie, frozen lemonade and chocolate chip cookie sandwiches are just three examples of the recipes on offer.

The writer has started to use the Dessert Bullet with excellent results. A favourite I have devised is putting frozen summer fruits through the Dessert Bullet to make a great fruity ice dessert dish.

7 things you don't need to worry about with LPG. (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)

There are many things that keep business owners awake at night; staff, suppliers, the taxman.....however being located off the mains gas grid does not need to be one of them.

There are a number of headaches commonly associated with some off-grid fuels, but not with LPG. Here are just a few of the things you don't need to worry about when using LPG to fuel your business.

1. Running out

Not only is LPG widely available across the UK, many LPG suppliers offer tanks fitted with technology that monitors your gas level for you. So no need to put re-ordering in the company calender, this can all be taken care of by your supplier.

2. Performance

LPG can be up to 5 times more efficient than traditional fuels as a high proportion of its energy content is converted into heat. In addition, LPG offers a stable temperature control. All of this means it is perfect for heating, drying and cooking processes.

Many warehouses and manufacturing facilities use LPG to fuel their forklift fleet as it is more powerful than its electric counterparts and can be used both indoor and outdoor, unlike the diesel alternative that is too polluting to be used in an indoor environment.

3. Delays

LPG provides instant heat and is used by many businesses to deliver instant hot water, providing savings by eliminating storage and unnecessary heating costs.

With LPG forklifts, the vehicles can be refueled in minutes, delivering 24/7 operational capabilities with virtually no downtime in contrast to electric trucks.

4.Maintenance costs

Particularly when taking whole life costs into account, a switch from oil to LPG can lead to significant savings. A cleaner fuel than oil, and with lower carbon content, LPG means chimneys and flues require less cleaning and that pipework and filters are under less strain. By opting for LPG, businesses can reduce the overall maintenance costs associated with their heating systems.

5. Compliance

With regulatory obligations driving demand for cleaner energy sources. LPG is fast gaining ground as a low-carbon, future-friendly solution. Legislation such as the Energy related Products directive can make alternative, more polluting fuel sources either obsolete or too expensive, whilst LPG as a cleaner fuel means it is more likely to comply with future legislative requirements.

6. Versatility

A highly adaptable fuel, LPG can be used for a wide variety of applications, as well as heating and cooking, therefore there is no need to worry about needing multiple energy sources.

7. Future low carbon requirements

There are a large range of renewable energies available such as solar, biomass and wind. However, relying solely on a renewable energy source can be problematic. A flexible gas, LPG can be used alongside the latest low carbon technologies to meet the needs of businesses looking to boost their green credentials.

The arguments above were first published by Rob Shuttleworth Chief Executive UKLPG but we felt it needed a wider audience.

If you have any questions on this please contact Towler & Staines Ltd. the LPG Professionals and Calor Gas Principal Dealers with shops in Keighley and Bradford.

Variety is the spice of life!

Recently I made a study of the Towler & Staines website and was amazed to discover that we offer over 600 hundred lines to our customers.

Of course the primary business of the Bradford and Keighley based Calor Gas Principal Dealer is bottled gas: butane, propane, cartridges, industrial gases from Air Products and drinks dispense gases from Air Liquide. However, we offer a whole lot more, believing that variety is the spice of life.

There are the products you would expect such as patio heaters, cabinet heaters, industrial heaters, and gas barbecues. Also the "Tool Box" items such as regulators, hoses, hose connectors, weed burners, torch kits and accessories are to be expected.

However, the Camping and Caravan section is full of surprises with 197 useful products on offer at bargain prices, most of them nothing to do with gas!

The Clever Ideas section has 15 lines including: Doggy Bags, Pizza Ovens, the Nutribullet,
Dessert Bullet, X-Hose and Table Clips.

Visit our website today, out of over 600 items you may find something you cannot live without!!!
