More from the man who brought the Beauclaire Outdoor Cooking System to the UK.

This is the second instalment of a weekly bog from Robin, the man who first introduced the Beauclaire to the UK.

Week 2 – life with Lisa.

As this all started back in the early 90’s, readers (bless them) are warned they should be prepared for the long haul – it is, after all, 20 years plus.

But before I start singing the praises of Lisa, let me go back to the real beginning. It all started at a trade exhibition in Düsseldorf called, in those days, something like ‘The International Garden & Leisure Show’ (in German, of course). On the top floor, way away from the principal foot fall of commercial buyers, I came across a tiny stand with 2 very Scandinavian-looking (tall & blond) people looking out expectantly for a visitor who might just be interested in their wares. They were selling a cast steel wok-type thing, weighing a ton, with 3 nuts welded onto the concave side and into which you were supposed to thread three steel rods as feet. But the heat came from a wood fire; it was from Finland, so of course in Finland there’s plenty of wood and plenty of open spaces. Not quite so in UK.

The story continues next week. But I am told I have to plug the Beauclaire THIS week, and EVERY week! And it’s true we do have a lot to tell about the product. For instance, what some existing owners and fans may not know is that we now have an Oven Dome, which sits in the groove of the cast griddle and converts the Beauclaire into a genuinely effective oven. It’s high enough for a full roast of whatever beast or fowl you may chose, or a vegetarian meat loaf, pizza, fresh bread……everything is of course available from this website, or from your local stockist (as the phrase goes!) If they don’t have what you want, and you prefer to buy from them, ask them to get it in: it would take 48 hours to reach them.  See you next week – hasta la semana proxima. Robin
